New Carer Training

We pride ourselves on the quality of training that all new carers receive prior to placement.

It is our belief that exceptional training best equips our carers with the knowledge and practical skills needed in order to deliver high quality care to clients.

Classroom-Based Induction

All carers complete a 4-day classroom-based induction period which covers all of the core skills, both theoretical and practical. These include:

  • Personal Care
  • Dementia Awareness
  • Infection Control
  • Pressure Area Care
  • Protection from Abuse
  • Food Hygiene
  • First Aid/Basic Life Support

Throughout the 4 days we explain the importance of delivering Person Centred Care and awareness of the Early Warning System.

Having successfully completed the induction we can be confident in our carers' ability to perform all that will be asked of them.

Care Certificate Qualification

Carers have 90 days to complete the Care Certificate. This comprises 15 standards which they complete online with the full support of the branch team and the trainer. This includes observations in the workplace.

Additional Training

Additional training is also provided for more specialist tasks, enabling us to provide quality care for a wider range of service users.

Ruth's Career with Apex

From Care Assistant to Regional Manager

I started out as a carer and I still enjoy providing care, nothing pleases me more than to see the smile on an elderly face when you have helped make their day a little easier, it means so much to them. I am now a Regional manager and am making sure that that still happens, that we help the elderly stay in their homes for as long as possible and that they are treated with dignity and respect whilst doing that.

Gaining Care Qualifications

At present approximately 50% of staff across the group either hold or are registered for Diplomas in Direct Care.

All newly appointed Care Assistants who do not already hold a relevant care qualification will be registered to undertake the relevant Diploma Care Award within 6 months of commencement of employment and complete the full award within three years. All other unqualified Care Staff will be phased into the relevant Diploma in Care over the next two years.
